The league rescues and cares for stray and surrendered animals in the DC area and offers adoption and foster programs.  The Medical Center provides full-service, low-cost care to the animals of low-income guardians.
 
The Washington Humane Society rescues stray, outcast, and abused animals and also offers adoption and foster programs. 
 
This website lists adoptable animals from over 50 shelters and rescue groups in the DC metropolitan area.
 
The Metropets website lists facilities that rescue and care for sick, injured, and orphaned animals before returning them to the wild.
