Courts

The US District Court for the District of Columbia is a federal court that has jurisdiction over cases arising under federal law or when the US government is a party. The Superior Court of the District of Columbia is the court of local jurisdiction.
  • Jury Duty: Specific information about jury duty can be found on the District Court and Superior Court sites. Residents cannot be required to serve more than once every two years for each court.
  • Marriage/Divorce:  The Superior Court issues marriage licenses and accepts filings for divorce.
