Works to keep District residents from becoming dependent on alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, and helps addicted DC residents return to sobriety.
 
Helps families and friends of alcoholics recover from the effects of living with the problem drinking of a relative or friend. Alateen is a recovery program for young people.
 
International fellowship of men and women who have or have had a drinking problem. It is nonprofessional, self-supporting, nondenominational, multiracial, and apolitical. To find a meeting near you, visit the Washington AA Association.
 
Offers information and advice for anyone who wants to intervene on behalf of a relative, friend or colleague who is addicted to alcohol, drugs, gambling, computers, or any other compulsive behavior.
 
Narcotics Anonymous
An abstinence program and nonprofit fellowship of men and women for whom drugs are or have been a major problem. Recovering addicts meet regularly to help each other stay clean.
